The Daily Grind

When are leaders too comfortable taking on risk?

Through the assessment of over one thousand senior executives I have observed that there are certain personal competencies that are very common within the senior executive team of midsized companies. What I have discovered in that one of those characteristics is a strong comfort dealing with risk, both for the individual and for that executive’s area of responsibility.

In an analysis of these senior executives using the Entrepreneurial Quotient, it was discovered that contrary to my expectations, senior executives scored at a level at or higher than successful entrepreneurs.

This chart indicates that nearly 2/3 of the senior executives scored higher

than the normative entrepreneurial group. Given our current economic problems the question begging to be asked is “when is comfort with risk too much?” (by Daniel J. DeWitt, PhD)
